On 22 nd March 1980,a meeting was held at the Conference Hall of Assam Co-operative Apex Bank Building under the presidentship of Sri Rama Baruah,MD,Apex Bank,and was attended by some 22 persons who had discussed in length of the need of establishing a local urban co-operative bank within the city of Guwahati,to cater the banking needs of the common masses of the society.The meeting ultimately decided to set up a urban co-operative bank under the name and style of “The Co-operative City Bank Ltd”,with its registered office at Silpukhuri,Guwahati-3.
Finally,the first inaugural General Meeting was held on 1 st August 1980 at The Institute of Engineers
( India) Auditorium,and an ad hoc board was formed with Late Sri Khanindra Ch Barua as Chairman and Sri Barada Charan Medhi as Vice Chairman and other thirteen members as Directors of the Ad hoc Board, whose names are given below:

The bank was registered under the Assam Co-operative Societies Act,1949,on 23 rd September 1980,with its registration no.G-79/80.
The first meeting of the Board of Directors was held on 2 nd September 1980, and in this meeting Late Sri Khanindra Ch Baruah was elected as the Chairman,and Sri Barada Charan Medhi was elected as Vice Chairman,while Sri Thaneswar Baruah was entrusted with the charge of the Managing Director of the bank.
Sri Banga Nath Baruah was appointed as Secretary,while Sri Bhabani Nath was appointed as Fourth Grade employee for the bank.
In the 2 nd Annual General Meeting held on 29.08.1981, 12 Directors were elected and in the first meeting of the Board held on 19.09.1981, Sri B.C.Medhi was elected as Chairman and Sri H.K.Khaund was elected as Vice Chairman.
When Sri B.C.Medhi was holding the post of Vice Chairman, he took personal initiation and he travelled to Bombay twice for obtaining the license from the Reserve Bank of India.When Sri B.C.Medhi took over charge as Chairman of the bank he went to Bombay again and managed to obtain the license for the bank (License no.ACD.AS.280.P) on 11 th September 1981, and the bank was formally opened on 4 th November 1981 and the then Chief Secretary,Sri Ramesh Chandra inaugurated the bank.
Within a short span of 9 years, the bank was able to shift to its own spacious building at U.N.Bezbaruah Road, Silpukhuri, Guwahati-3, on 5 th November 1990.
Another branch of the bank was opened on 28 th April 1993, at Ulubari, when Sri Jagat Baruah was the Chairman of the bank.
Another two branches of the bank were opened at Noonmati and Ganeshguri in the year 2002,when Sri B.C.Medhi was the Chairman.The Noonmati Branch was inaugurated by Sri Indramoni Bora,the then M.P of Rajya Sabha,while the Ganeshguri Branch was inaugurated by Sri Tarun Gogoi,Honourable Chief Minister of Assam.
This bank today has emerged into a prestigious and honourable institution not only amongst the urban co-operative banks of the North Eastern Region but also amongst the city based banks inspite of stiff competition prevailing currently.
It is indeed worth mentioning that this bank celebrated its SILVER JUBILEE YEAR in the year 2005-2006.
Today, all the four branches of the bank are fully computerized, thereby offering quick and effective services to our valued clients.
The bank has obtained licenses from Reserve Bank of India for opening of two more branches at Six Mile and Beltola within the city of Guwahati.
The Six Mile Branch has been inaugurated on 24 th September 2009 by Sri Barada Charan Medhi,Chairman,The Co-operative City Bank Ltd,Guwahati,while Sri Dilip Borah,IPS,Addl DGP, Assam attended as Chief Guest.
The Beltola Branch has been inaugurated on 29 th September 2009 by Smti Surekha Marandi,Regional Director of N.E.States,RBI,Guwahati,while Sri D.N.Bezboruah,Former Editor,The Sentinel,Guwahati attended as Chief Guest.
The bank has become known to the public for its prompt & personalized services, and is rendering all kinds of banking services.
